Company Fined After Worker Is Struck by a Moving Vehicle

The worker—a pontoon traffic marshal—was located nearby when a van was being reversed off of a company vessel onto the pontoon area. The vehicle reversed over the employee’s head and body, resulting in numerous fractures to the skull, broken ribs and the loss of sight in one eye. 

Further investigation revealed that the company had failed to assess moving vehicle risks on-site or use effective control measures. As a result, the company received the following sentence:

  • The company was fined £400,000 and ordered to pay costs of £6,576.15.
